A set of four dining / side chairs from the Swiss architect and furniture designer, Willy Guhl. The chairs were produced in 1959 by the Swiss company, Dietker & Co in Stein am Rhein. The chair has a seat height of 17, total width of 18.5 and total height of 29.75 inches. The chair is the perfect combination of form and comfort; 1950s architectural lines that are used to form a chair with a trapezoid shaped seat and generous back meant to provide maximum seating comfort for hours on end. The seat and back are woven rattan. All the chairs are in good condition with light patina to paint in small areas.
Willy Guhl was a Swiss furniture designer. Internationally, his reputation as an important neo-functionalist was established with his beach chair designed for and produced by the Eternit company of Switzerland. Guhl’s large repertoire of designs consistently reveal his obsession with finding the perfect form. His goal was to achieve the best designs with the least effort, effortless design. Not only did he study at the Zurich School of Applied Arts in 1915, he went on to teach there for 39 years.
