A vintage lounge chair designed by the French designer, Pierre Chapo. The chair is the epitome of the architecturally designed and extremely well, hand-crafted furniture of Pierre Chapo. Chapo is famous for his furniture with clean lines that are ergonomically designed for maximum comfort. As is the case with most Chapo furniture, the overall beauty is second only to the ingeniously designed details, i.e. the way the leather seat is mounted to the chair, the puzzle like wood connection at the corners. The chair is from the 60s, has a seat height of 12 inches, total width of 26.75 inches and total depth of 25 inches. The leather has some surface patina, however, the chair is in overall very good condition. In addition, to producing his own designs, Chapo also produced some of the designs of Charlotte Perriand in the 50s/60s.
Pierre Chapo graduated with a degree in architecture from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1958. In the 60's, he established the Society Chapo, based in Gordes, France. He is known for his pure designs created in his first love, wood. Ever the humble creator, he considered himself to be foremost a carpenter.
