vintage item::

A vintage 1970s, smock coat in a finely woven cashmere / wool navy blue fabric from the French fashion house, Chloe. The coat is deftly designed with a generous cut and soft rounded forms which Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent both included in the design vocabulary during this period. The coat eschews easy elegance which defined the new, independent modern woman of the 1970s, espeically with the rounded collar and drop sleeves, open sleeves. The coat appears to be seamless and the soft, fabric allows for maximum swing & movement for the wearer. The size tag is no longer present; measurements are total length: 43.5 inches, across waist: 23 inches, across chest 22 inches and drop sleeve: 21 inches. The coat is quite generously cut. Our mannequin is a size 6/8 but the coat is easily accomodate a larger size. It is in excellent condition.

Gaby Aghion and the house of Chloe is very important to the history of women's fashion. She broke ground in the 1950s as one of the first producers of Pret-a-porter; off the rack, well made and high quality fashion accessible to every woman. Aghion was also a visionaire in her engagement of young new designers, Karl Lagerfeld being one of the most famous. In 1966, Lagerfeld started his over 30 year association with the label. During the 60s and 70s, Chloe dressed some of the world's most famous women, including Jackie Kennedy, Brigitte Bardot, Maria Callas and Grace Kelly.
