There are a several cultural events that occurred in the 20th century that inspired 1970s fashion. However, in the case of this caftan / dress; one can definitely see the direct influence of the art deco movement, the 1970s international touring King Tut exhibition and the pleats point towards the influence of Fortuny.  Also, the 1970s saw a surge in the caftan.

This gold pleated synthetic fabric caftan is one size fits all and the drawstring collar allows the look to be adjusted. There are armholes, otherwise, there are seams along the side. The shoulders can be worn by person with shoulders up to 20 inches wide and width of the seams across the hips is 26 inches. This is a vintage 70s, French piece (label Lafrex) and it is in very good condition.
