A vintage, circa 1930s, quilt. The quilt was originally purchased from in Mississippi and comes from the Delta region in the State, near Greenville. The African American designed and created quilt is in the "Log Cabin" pattern. However, due to the very mixed and irregular use of fabrics and fabric piece sizes; it has a very graphic and spontaneous feel. The quilt was used over years and there are some machinal repairs, otherwise, the quilt is completely hand-sewn. It measures 72 x 73 inches and has a rare, tear drop border. The quilt has been used most recently in combination with 20th century, mid-century modern furniture and is a perfect complement to the colorful fabrics and fabrics of this era. Yet, with its rough hewn, folk art appeal; it is a perfect juxtaposition to the sleek, designer furniture lines.
