vintage item::

An exceptional antique Swiss travel / advertising poster. The poster is an original lithograph and created by the Swiss artist, Dora Hauth to advertise the national Schwingerfest in 1911. The Schwingerfest is a very important ethnic Swiss sport which is similar to wrestling and has been a part of Swiss culture since hundreds of years.

The poster is large format and with what appears to be its period frame, measures 62.75 x 42.75 inches. It was printed by the atelier, Frey & Sons.

This is an important piece of Swiss graphic art as it completely represents the spirit of the early 20th century in almost a nationalist way with the proud young Swiss man in his Schwinger sport clothing and the mountaings behind him. Not unlike images that would later appear in WPA works of art in the U.S.

Also, the quality of the colors and the technique exhibits the mastery of Swiss print technique which and why early 20th century Swiss graphics are so revered.

There is a lateral repair at his forehead and other than some cleaning of the interior glass, it is in very good condition and the colors are still very vibrant. The frame has some chips at edges to color.
