vintage item::

"Variations on Themes" is a new label created by Quintessentia.com. Each still life is a composition of objects that we think fit together. We find so many wonderful objects and want to share our enthusiasm for combining objects to display in the home. Each still life is a unique assemblage of artefacts that might cross genres & styles and in our opinion work together.

Still Life Number 9 is a group of Swiss studio design pottery from the 30s. The forms follow along the Bauhaus design mantra and like many Bauhaus artist, the decoration and glazes are ethnic inspired, specifically Native American. The use of incised lines and designs to accent the simple forms are perfect example of the adaptation of and inclusion of foreign cultural influences on early 20th century decorative arts.

The pottery pieces are from the Bodmer atelier and are all in very good condition. The largest piece is 11 inches tall.
