"Variations on Themes" is a new label created by Quintessentia.com. Each still life is a composition of objects that we think fit together. We find so many wonderful objects and want to share our enthusiasm for combining objects to display in the home. Each still life is a unique assemblage of artefacts that might cross genres & styles and in our opinion, work.
Still Life 8 is one of our favorites. It is an interesting mix of European antiques, shabby chic, a little kitsch and 1950s French mid-century design all rolled into one scene. The antique marquetry mirror is 19th century Biedermeier. The 1950s French carved African inspired sculptures with metal braids are a pefect juxtaposition to the mirror; culturally and optically. The wood tones are quite similar, however, the abstract quatliy of the sculpture and their perfection of form highlight the old worldness and patina of the mirror. For size ref. the sculptures are 11 inches tall.
The mirror has two small strips of marquetry missing and general patina to frame & mirror glass.
