A vintage Bauhaus design era lamp, circa 1920. The Swiss design lamp is an elegant and architectural solution to a basic modern need of light to work or read. It is a perfect example of Bauhaus influenced lighting design. The lamp's shade can be adjusted and the height can also be adjusted by turning the large handle and moving the arm upwards. It is 18 inches tall.
The lamp was produced by one of Switzerland's leading lighting producers at the time, Belmag. The company produced its own original lamps and also had the Swiss license to produce designs by Christian Dell.
The Belmag company was one of the leading Swiss producers of lighting during the 20th century. The company worked closely with Swiss architects like Sigfried Gideon and Hin Bredendieck. Their goal was to incorporate industrial production techniques and the Bauhaus aesthetic in creating lamps that were functional and clearly modern. They also produced the lamps of Christian Dell for a short period of time during the 20’s.
