A 1950s edition of a 1930s Swiss, Bauhaus period design lamp. The lamp is extremely well crafted of thin rods of metal with an aluminum shade. The lamp is completely adjustable and is in very good condition. It functions and is 41 inches long when fully extended. The shade is 7.5 inches long.
The lamp was produced by the Swiss lighting manufacturer B.A.G. The company, along with Belmag, was one of the leading producers of lighting during this period and worked closely with Swiss architects, like Sigfried Gideon and Hin Bredendieck, in incorporating industrial design and Bauhaus inspired architecture lines to create lamps that were functional and clearly modern.
The lamp is actually a wisp of a lamp as it appears to be delicately balanced and fragile but is quite robust and a perfect piece of modernism design.
A Swiss company that is one of the premier producers of industrial and decorative lighting. It is especially noted for its Bauhaus, and mid-century modern era designs. The lamps were sold at many stores including the famed Wohnbedarf store, which introduced modern Bauhaus design to the Swiss public.
