A rare, vintage Italian Murano studio glass vase that is attributed to Tobias Scarpa. The vase is 4.9 inches tall and 5.1 inches in diameter. It is made of a fine thin glass with inclusions of gold foil. The coloring and quality of the fine glass points towards the work that Scarpa did for M.V.M. Cappelin. Near the pontil, there is an inventory number that was painted on by a previous collector. This is done with a simple enamel and can be removed.
The vase is in mint condition and is not signed.
The style of the vase is similar to vessels that appear in Scarpa's oeuvre when he worked with Venini in the 30s. During this time he produced a series of vessles out of a blown transparent glass. Due to the simple shapes and the very thin glass from which they were made, they are often compared to "soap bubbles". This series was shown at the 20th Venice Biennale in 1936 and at the 6th Milan Triennale. Also, the method that Scarpa uses the gold foil in this vase appears later in the Lattimi series.
