vintage item::

A very, very rare example of an airline uniform. The uniform was worn by young boys who worked as "bell hops" and luggage personnel for Swiss Airlines and is circa 1931/1932 is rare on several counts. 1. Children were employed by the airline for a very short period. 2. The boys were employed pre-1934 which is when the first flight attendant was employed in Europe by Swiss Airlines. It is not completely documented but the boys were used until circa 1937.

Hence, this is one of the earliest examples of official airline uniforms, certainly to enrich your collection.

The uniform is in quite good condition. There is a darn at the back of the knee shorts and a little rare at the collar. Also, the quality of the uniform is very good, similar to the Swiss uniform quality at this time. Nice touches are the gold thread used to embroider the Swissair name on the cap. Other special details are: the Fez like tassel hanging from the hat and the small African beads used to trim the Nehru collars. These are small details that exhibit how well thought out these uniforms were in referencing foreign destinations. The photos are from publications showing the boys in action, circa 1931 to 1937. Size reference; the shoulders are 16 inches wide. Also, all of the original brass buttons are present.
