A 1920s, hand-carved wooden child's pull toy in the form of a duck. The toy's design is greatly influenced by the anthroposophy school of philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner of Switzerland. Steiner's design philosophy was based on the idea of using soft angles, circles, and rounded shapes, avoiding the use of right angles and squares. The duck is 10 inches tall and bobbles his head up and down and opens / closes bill when rolling. It is in very good condition and functions.
Rudolf Steiner Movement was founded by the Swiss philosopher, designer and architect, Rudolf Steiner. He is one of the most famous and influential reformers of the 20th century. His philosphy resulted in many of the institutions of today, including the Waldorf schools. The artists Joseph Bueys, Wassily Kandinsky, Mondrian and Frank Lloyd Wright counted him and his anthroposophy as a source of inspiration. Steiner, himself, found his artistic and design motivation in the Art Nouveau and Expressionist movements.
