A most unusual piece of Swiss Folk art, a 37 x 27 inch crucifix carved from one massive piece of wood. The crucifix is circa 1900 and it is folk art pure as the carver has used the natural traits of the wood to reveal the face, hands, ribs and body parts. It is also quite interesting because the carver is influenced by the primitive Lötschertal mask carving tradition from the Graubunden region of Switzerland in depicting the face. It is folk art pure in its purest form. The wood has natural patina.
