A glass tea service designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld for Schott & Gen. Jenaer Glaswerke, circa 1932-1934. The set is comprised of a teapot with cover and infuser, 4 cups and 4 saucers. They are signed with the old 1930s makers mark and all pieces are in very good condition. The teapot is 4 inches tall and holds 1 liter of liquid. The cups are 1.9 inches tall. All pieces are in very, very good conditon. This is a museum quality example of 1930s German glass, Bauhaus design and is in the permanent collection of MOMA and the Cooper Hewitt among other museums.
Wilhelm Wagenfeld was a German product designer who studied at the Bauhaus. He is considered a pioneer of 20th century industrial design. His oeuvre includes designs primarily in glass and metal. The glass companies, Schott Jenaer Glass Works and Lausitzer (where he was artistic director in the 20’s), produced most of his important designs.
