A collection of ten antique, 18th century French architecture & Interior design engravings. The etchings are from designs by Nicolas & Dominique Pineau and most likely Monsieur Chamblin; the architects to the Louis XV and the French court.
These engravings were like the "Elle Decor" & "House Beautiful" of the 18th century and were a way of communicating the architecture & Interiors de rigour. This set illustrates bedroom niches, furniture, fabrics, cabinets & mirrors.
The 18th century was the beginning of the age of comfort whereby the idea of comfort was integrated into a home. This was also the beginning of the interior design profession. This set is particularly nice as it shows the integration of artwork int the interior.
Each engraving, including border, measures 15 x 9.8 inches. These are in remarkable condition, especially considering their age. The central images are clean with some darkening at edge of paper. The photos show the main image. They would look great framed in simple black frames.
