The Gavina company was founded in 1949 by David Gavina, who is sometimes considered the godfather of Italian design. From the beginning, the company produced experimental designs by unknown designers; some of which have gone on to international acclaim. Former designers incude: Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa, Kazuhide Takahama, Cini Boeri, Roberto Sebastian Matta, Vico Magistretti and Mario Bellini. Gavina SpA and Flos are considered to be sister companies.
