 A Margrit Linck bulbous, hand-painted studio pottery vase with a biomorphic yellow and white glaze accented with lots of dots. The vase is 5.5 inches tall. There are glaze chips at rim and body.

Typical of these early works of Margrit Linck, the vase is hand-formed . According to Mrs. Linck, the form is the most important factor in her work. In her hands, vases & pitchers experience a metamorphosis which are further enhanced by her colorful glaze decoration that borders between abstract and surreal. Often in her work, one can see glimpses of recognizable animals and figures and there are works whereby the interpretation lies in the eye of the beholder. And there in lies the beauty of the work of Margrit Linck. She is considerd the grand dame of 20th century Swiss pottery design.

Margrit Linck’s works are found in major international museum collections and have a cult following amongst 20th century ceramic arts specialists. Her works reflect the major art movements of the early 20th century, including sleek, organic, avandt-garde forms and exciting abstract glaze decorations. After completing her studies in Bern, she was greatly inspired by her sabbaticals in Berlin (1924-1925) and in Paris (1927 to 1930). Her original inspiration was the traditional pottery of the Heimberg, Steffisburg and Thun ateliers of Switzerland but with her own flair and special eye and hand for the contemporary. One could say that she ushered Swiss pottery into the 20th century but spectacularly so.
