A Marcello Fantoni, mid-century modern, Italian studio pottery vase. The piece features a slender neck that flows into a bulbous, irregular, free form bowl with deep, hand-formed dimples. It is covered in a thick, textured yellow glaze and is 9 inches tall. There is a a 0.25 inch chip underneath vase which is not visible when the piece is standing
Marcello Fantoni studied under Carlo Guerrini and the sculptor, Bruno Innocenti. He opened his own studio in the 1930’s where he started to build his reputation for creating whimsical forms with very artistic, often fantastical, decorations. His works are included in the collections of MOMA (NY, Tokyo), MFA (Boston) and the V & A (London).
