about the designer :: Lindstrand, Vicke

Vicke Lindstrand was a Swedish artist whose talents crossed the disciplines of glass, textile and ceramic design. However, it is for his glass designs that he is considered a pioneer. After a short career as a commercial illustrator, he joined Orrefors glass in 1928 where he worked primarily on engraved glass and Graal vases. During this period, he and Edvin Öhrström, developed the Graal technique. In 1930, he entered the international decorative arts world as a very highly acclaimed exhibitor at the Stockholm Worlds Fair of 1930. He applied his artistry and masterful creative direction in leading the Uppsala Ekeby pottery factory from 1943 to 1950. In 1950, he returned to the glass industry as artistic director of Kosta. It is at this time that his true talents flourished and his creations dominated the production, from an artistic point, until his retirement in 1973.
