A large, Italian Murano studio glass bowl by Archimede Seguso. The bowl is 4 inches tall and 9 inches wide. The large bowl with wave rim sits on its clear base which gives the impression that the bowl is floating. Other than some light scratches underneath base, it is in very good condition.
Archimede Seguso was born into an old Murano glass family dating back to the 14th century. In 1933, he was one of the founders of the Artistica Vetreria e Soffieria Barovier Seguso & Ferro. He was the master craftsman and created the pieces designed by Flavio Poli and himself. In 1946, he left to form his own studio, the Vetreria Artistica Archimede Seguso where he began to experiment with applying ancient glass techniques to new forms. He is arguably one of the best and most influential Italian glass designers of the 20th century. He has been honored with prizes countless times, including at the Italian Biennale and the Trieannale in Milan. His works are in most major museum design collections worldwide.
