A circa 1920, Italian, Rationalist period table and stool. The tablie has flip up / fold down glass sides and a wooden surface. The seat is woven fabric. The vanity measures 26.75 x 17.75 x 38 (with sides folded up) and the stool 18.5 x 18 x 14.75 inches. The bent metal has its original green paint and the stool's seat is in good structural condition but there are stains and patina to woven seat.
The Rationalist movement gained fame in Italy through the establishment of the "Gruppo 7" by Gino Pollini and Giuseppe Terragni and others. It was an avant garde movement that was parallel to the Bauhaus movement in Germany. Like the Bauhaus, it was based on strict, clean, architectural lines but it was also a design philosophy that was political in nature as a response to the heated political climate in the late 20s / early 30s in Italy.
