An original rare, French art deco period prowling panther sculpture by the phenomenal Maurice Prost (1894-1967). The sculpture is 3.75 inches tall and 7.25 inches wide. This sculpture was inspired by one created as a life size bronze panther sculpture for the colonial exhibition in Paris (1931).
This sculpture is bronze on a black slate base, it is signed and is an edition “Susse Freres / Paris” and is circa 1930s. Although Prost lost an arm during World War I, he went on to be known as one of the greatest sculptures of the art deco period and exhibited in Edgar Brant’s gallery, at the Salon d’Automne in 1923 and received countless accolades and awards for his work, including the Officier de la Légion d'Honneur au titre des Arts. In addition to his sculptural work, he also designed porcelain for Sevres.
