This is a 1920's Bauhaus era, Swiss design ceiling lamp. The lamp has clean, architectural lines and is made of molded aluminum and opaline glass. It is in very good condition with a little patina to metal. The lamp is 18 inches tall and has a diameter of 22 inches.
The lamp was produced by the Swiss lighting company, Belmag. It, along with the furniture store, Wohnbedarf, were responsible for introducing Bauhaus design to the Swiss market.
The Belmag company was one of the leading Swiss producers of lighting during the 20th century. The company worked closely with Swiss architects like Sigfried Gideon and Hin Bredendieck. Their goal was to incorporate industrial production techniques and the Bauhaus aesthetic in creating lamps that were functional and clearly modern. They also produced the lamps of Christian Dell for a short period of time during the 20’s.
