A vintage 1950's table lamp designed by Rico and Rosemarie Baltensweiler. This is an especially rare example as the pieces are not enameld or painted; thereby, giving the lamp a pure, industrial edge. The lamp has fine sleek architectural lines. It is 19.75 inches in the simplest position and the shade is 9.75 inches. The lamp turns on its own axis; the arm is fully adjustable; the upper section can be turned outward and the shade has full rotation.
This lamp belongs to the Type 600 family which gained acclaim and international fame when Knoll sold the floor version in the 1950's.
Baltensweiler Lighting is based near Luzern Switzerland and was founded by the couple Rico, a former electrical engineer, and Rosemarie, a former student of Max Bill. The Baltensweilers originally started their workshop in their home and had a distinct architectural approach in creating their work. The couple’s designs gained international acclaim in the mid-50’s when Knoll International gained the rights to sell their lamps and Le Corbusier used their “600 lamp” in his model home exhibition in 1956.
