This is a perfect example of the charm of 1950s Italian studio pottery. It has a bit of humor with a monsignor in repose wearing his large cardinal's red hat (a galero), relaxing, reading a newspaper under the guise of a little cat. Also, the style of the painting is abstract inspired and whimsical and it is very well crafted. The plate is 5.12 inches in diameter. The signature is no longer visible but it wouldn't be surprising if it was from the Marcello Fantoni studio; that is how good it is.
