A vintage 1920's German Bauhaus design era upholstered, bent metal armchair. The chair has a sleek design with architectural lines and free floating, cantilevered design. This design is attributed to Walter Knoll. Due to the flexible movement of the structure and flexible seat support, the chair is extremely comfortable. It has a seat height of 14 inches, total height of 27.5 inches and total width of 23 inches. The upholstery is woven wool and the entire chair is in good condition with a light upholstery.
Walter Knoll was born into a furniture producing family and took over this company in 1907 along with his brother. He started his company which also bears his name in 1925 after leaving the family furniture business. He immediately started to integrate Bauhaus design principles into his own designs. His son started the American furniture company, Knoll International in 1937.
